yet another .jpg as .gif

Today we have a leaf as a .gif
February 28, 2005February 27, 2005February 25, 2005February 24, 2005we're working on a new technique![]() During the past week, I've been experimenting with this, somewhat out of the ordinary technique. It works on some compositions, but not all. Normal full range web images are usually .jpg, and thanks to modern technology, have millions of colors for amazingly accurate renderings. On the other hand, .gif images contain only a maximum of 256 colors, so images end up looking like silkscreened posters. Another term for the effect is posterized. Sometimes the effect is inappropriate, crass, or too overwhelming for the particular subject or composition, but the technique really adds snap and life, albeit a candy apple effect, to otherwise rather dull photos. February 19, 2005weston, the beach and the man![]() It must be quite an honor to have a beach named after you, but in the case of Edward Weston, the honor was most certainly duely appointed. In the 1930's you would have found Weston creating the most stunning black and white photos with his bulky 8X10 view camera and enormous lens. He could find and pull forms out of the sandstone with his great eye; to which he could flavor with a bit of his soul, as well... http://www.photoarrow.com/pl/weston01loop.html February 18, 2005February 17, 2005February 16, 2005February 15, 2005February 14, 2005February 13, 2005February 12, 2005February 11, 2005pebbles, water, and light![]() pebbles, water, and light... and the perfect location; Point Lobos... http://www.photoarrow.com/pl/patterns01loop.html February 10, 2005james johnson house, half moon bay![]() Westcoast history goes back about 150 years, and you will find this little piece of it, the James Johnson House, just south of Half Moon Bay. http://www.photoarrow.com/sm03loop5.html February 9, 2005last year's lupine![]() I am looking forward to getting back out to Chimney Rock at Point Reyes again this year. The redwood grove is a great place to "drain stress", and if you need your daily exercise, like me, you'll get a good cardiovascular workout on the hike up to the ridge. If you make it to the top you will find a nice grove of madrone trees, and on a clear day--a view of Mt. Tamampais. It is a splendid hike in an exceptional area! http://www.marinpix.com February 1, 2005coit tower and streetlight![]() Coit Tower and streetlight from Fisherman's Wharf.
